Gordon, George C. Detroit. Entered service in company I, Twenty-fourth Infantry, at organization, as Captain. Aug. 14, 1862, at Detroit, for 3 years, age 30. Commissioned to date July 26, 1862. Mustered Aug. 15, 1862. Taken prisoner at Gettysburg, Pa., July 1, 1863. Escaped Feb. 14, 1865. Joined regiment May 20, 1865. Mustered out at Detroit, Mich., June 30, 1865. Brevet Major U.S. Volunteers March 13, 1865, for gallant and meritorious services during the war.
