Letter from Robert H. Carey to Mack Ewing dated December 19, 1864. In this letter, he describes the Battle of Tennessee.
Military Service Note
Carey first enlisted on July 28, 1863 as a Second Lieutenant in Company B of the 118th Indiana Infantry. After mustering out on March 1 the next year, he re-enlisted, again as Second Lieutenant, this time with Company B of the 138th Indiana Infantry. On the same day he signed up, Carey was promoted to First Lieutenant. Four months later, on September 30, he mustered out again, and then joined Company B of the 142nd Indiana Infantry. He stayed with that unit until July 14, 1865.
