Letter from Sanford Douglass Payne to Elizabeth Caroline Wilcox Jackson dated July 27, 1863. In this letter, Payne, as close family friend of the Jacksons, gives his apologizes for not writing sooner, describes his experiences of soldier life, and expresses his desire to hear from Elizabeth and Charles Jackson, who is also serving in the Union Army.
