Letter from Lemuel W. Osborn to his wife Eunice dated May 10th, 1865. Osborn reports that his company is awaiting orders to march to Washington, with the hope of being able to head home to Michigan thereafter. He expresses his feelings of desire to head home as soon as possible.
Military Service Note
Lemuel Osborn was born in Ohio, but sometime after 1850 he came to Michigan. On February 27, 1864, he enlisted in Company B of the 13th Michigan Infantry for a period of three years. He mustered into the service on March 1, and three weeks later he wrote his first letter home. Osborn wrote at least eleven letters from the front before mustering out at Louisville, Kentucky, on July 25, 1865. After the War he joined GAR Post 35, but died shortly thereafter.
