Letter from Lemuel W. Osborn to his wife Eunice, dated August 6th, 1864. The letter is primarily one of affection and yearning for home, his wife and his children. Osborn also deals with "business" in this letter - namely sending his wife money and the logistics thereof.
Military Service Note
Lemuel Osborn was born in Ohio, but sometime after 1850 he came to Michigan. On February 27, 1864, he enlisted in Company B of the 13th Michigan Infantry for a period of three years. He mustered into the service on March 1, and three weeks later he wrote his first letter home. Osborn wrote at least eleven letters from the front before mustering out at Louisville, Kentucky, on July 25, 1865. After the War he joined GAR Post 35, but died shortly thereafter.
