Letter from Mack Ewing to Nan Ewing dated July 4, 1864. In this letter, Ewing describes the lack of 4th of July festivities at the hospital, the wound to his left hand (occurred June 20, 1864), and the amputation of Captain Richard Ricaby's arm.

Ewing, Henry ("Mack"). Enlisted in company D. Second Infantry, March 28, 1864, at Woodbridge for 3 years, age 22. Mustered April 8, 1864. Joined regiment May 23, 1864. Discharged at West Philadelphia, Pa., June 23, 1865, on account of wounds received while in camp near Petersburg, Va. (Loss of right eye.)
