Killed in action at Knoxville, Tenn., Nov. 24, 1863. Served with marked distinction and gallantry as Aid-de-Camp and Provost Marshal on the staff of the Division Commander Major General Philip Kearney, in the Peninsular and Second Bull Run Campaigns, until the death of General Kearney, at Chantilly, Va., Sept. 2, 1862 (Descriptive Roll Second Michigan Volunteers).
